1. Were you aware of Indonesia’s commitment to the Paris climate agreement to limit the rise in global average temperature below 2°C and make efforts to limit it below 1.5°C?

3. Coal is the single largest source of global temperature increase. Experts say the world needs to completely phase out coal power by 2040 to avoid the worst of climate impacts. Building a new coal power plant today would lock Indonesia into using coal past 2045. Moreover, recent research shows it is already cheaper to invest in new solar PV than new coal in Indonesia. Do you think PLN should prioritise building renewable energy projects like solar and wind, or should it prioritise more coal power plants?

4. PLN’s “take or pay” scheme means it will pay for electricity from new coal power plants like Jawa 9 and 10, even if the electricity is not needed. Doing so may mean PLN issues payments to power plant owners for no power in return. Are you concerned that constructing a new coal power plant in the Jawa-Bali grid, such as Jawa 9 and 10, could burden PLN’s financials?

5. Currently, there are 22 coal power plants in Banten province, where Jawa 9 and 10 would be located. Reports have highlighted severe respiratory and skin diseases affecting the local population as a result of air pollution from burning coal. Modelling of health impacts has projected that Jawa 9 and 10 would cause over 4,700 premature deaths over its operating lifetime. Given that Jawa 9 and 10 carries health risks to the local population, do you agree that PLN should cancel the Jawa 9 and 10 coal power plant project?
