4. Media reports indicate that the State Bank of India (SBI) is considering a Rs 5000 crore loan to the proposed Adani Carmichael thermal coal mine in Australia. This could become the biggest coal mine in Australia and paperwork lodged with the authorities in the state of Queensland indicate Adani wants to run the mine for 60 years. All the coal is intended for coal-burning plants in India despite the Indian Government policy of phasing out thermal coal imports. Do you think the SBI should provide a loan to this project?*
