Enviro groups under attack… again!

5 July 2017

In the latest development of an ongoing attack on green groups, Federal Treasury has released a Discussion Paper carrying proposals that would restrict the ability of organisations to advocate for environmental justice, and even clamp down on democratic and civil liberties.

If acted upon, it would mean groups like Market Forces have to spend up to half our effort on “environmental remediation” – in other words, picking up litter or planting trees instead of holding governments and financial institutions accountable for how they invest our money.

Please take this opportunity to defend environmental organisations and make a submission to Treasury in response to the Discussion Paper. You can use the form on this page, and it would be great if you could edit and personalise your message to ensure it has maximum impact.

There is also a dangerous recommendation that environmental groups should face administrative sanctions for being in any way connected to ‘unlawful’ activity. While Market Forces does not condone or encourage illegal activity, we support the rights of communities to engage in peaceful protest, an integral element to a healthy democracy.

The Discussion Paper is yet another step in a continuing attempt by the Federal Government and fossil fuel lobby to limit the power of environmental groups. Help ensure Market Forces and other environmental groups continue to be effective by sending a submission to Treasury.
