Calling for Paris-alignment
Australian Ethical does not invest in Whitehaven Coal, so did not have the opportunity to express an opinion that the company’s strategy should align with the Paris climate goals at Whitehaven’s October 2018 Annual General Meeting.
Australian Ethical is a member of the Climate Action 100+, which aims to encourage 100+ emissions-intensive companies to “Take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across their value chain, consistent with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global average temperature increase to well below 2-degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.”
Scenario analysis
Australian Ethical provides a discussion of scenario analysis conducted in relation to its power generation share investments, but has not disclosed any more detailed or comprehensive climate change scenario analysis. Australian Ethical also discloses the carbon footprint of its holdings, and has set a target for a net-zero emissions investment portfolio by 2050.
