Take Action: Westpac Must Stop Funding New and Expanded Fossil Fuels
Despite community pressure, shareholder concerns, and the scientific imperative to cut emissions to protect our planet:
WESTPAC IS STILL BACKING FOSSIL FUEL EXPANSION.
Market Forces’ latest report found that Westpac alone has contributed $7.9 billion to the world’s biggest fossil fuel companies since the Paris Agreement in 2016 – and in 2025 continues to back big polluters like BP, Woodside and Santos.
What could be worse? Westpac used to be the smallest contributor to fossil fuels of the big four banks, and had a policy to block finance to coal, oil and gas expanders in 2025.
This year Westpac retracted that policy and doubled down on fossil finance to become Australia’s second biggest funder of fossil fuels!
This is no accident, Westpac and its leadership have chosen this path – this is why we need to send them a huge warning at their AGM: Wrong way, go back!
